What looks a whole lot like a half inch of snow has fallen on the west side of Carson Valley so far this morning. The snow level is supposed to be at 5,000 feet, where National Weather Forecasters believe we'll receive an accumulation of up to 2 inches. It's going to be interesting today, with rain, snow and a chance of thunderstorms.
There are road controls on any route that goes above 5,000 feet, including Kingsbury Grade, Highway 395 from Jake's Hill south to the California state line, and over Highway 50 at Spooner Junction. Chains or snow tires are required most of the way around the Lake and from Holbrook Junction east to Wellington. Chains for four-wheel drive are required over Interstate 80, Highway 50 over Echo Summit and Highway 88 over Carson Pass. Oh, and there's a high wind warning on Highway 395 through Washoe Valley.
Smart money is that the threatened auction of "Beverly Hillbillies" star Max Baer's property in north county won't be happening today. We'll go anyway to see what does happen.
A road hazard popped up on Kingsbury Grade two miles up from the intersection with Highway 50 at 6:16 a.m. I don't know for sure, but with the rain we got earlier this morning, some sort of rock slide is a good bet.
