Staff Reports

Kat Simmons hosts her stand-up comedy workshop, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 9 through March 23, at the Carson Valley Arts Council in Minden. During the six-week workshop, students write a seven-minute set to present at a public showcase on the last night.

The class size is no more than 10 students. Simmons' goal is to create a safe and creative place to work. She works with people who want to improve their public speaking skills, to those who want to become professional comics. Most people just want to give it a shot, since people have been telling them their whole lives that they are funny.

Simmons partners with the Carson Valley Arts Council to teach in an artistic environment and to bring awareness to the growing arts community in Carson Valley. Cost of the workshop is $250 with a $50 deposit due by Feb. 3. Reserve a spot at (775) 721-8864. Check out Simmons at katsimmons.com
