A photo of outdoor yard lights glowing through a layer of fresh snow won first place in the January Carson Valley Photo Club contest for Pam Brekas. She titled her winning entry "Snow Mushrooms." The January theme was "snow sculptures."
Second place at the club's first meeting of the new year went to Pricilla Forster for "Snow Family," a photo of snowballs resembling faces.
Wendell Jenness copped third place with his picture of icicles dangling from a rock cliff off Highway 88.
Winning photographs are displayed at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden.
Next month's photo contest theme is portraits.
Diana Basche, owner of Photo Happy Studio in Minden, will discuss portraiture at the club's Feb. 9 meeting.
The club welcomes new members - amateurs to professionals - at meetings held the second Tuesday of each month at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
