More than 100 people turned out to a rally at Life Point Church in Minden on Saturday to mark the 37th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, which is Friday.

Psychologist Jay Jeffers and the Catholic Medical Association's Keith Shonnard of Carson City spoke at the rally, which included stories of local pro-life groups meeting needs of women in crisis, personal testimony of abortion's impact, and prayers for those victimized by abortion.

"Rallies like these are especially important with the health care bill looming in Congress and the most pro-abortion administration since Roe," said organizer Don Nelson, who is president of Nevada LIFE. "Obama's health care bill, written by Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, will fund abortion and empower the Department of Health and Human Services to compel every health care plan in America to provide abortion coverage by merely listing abortion as a preventive service."

Nelson said the pro-life movement has made progress. He cited figures that the abortion rate has been lowered by more than 33 percent since 1990 and the number of abortions is down by 400,000 a year.

"Polls show that 50-60 percent of Americans support one of three pro-life positions on abortion," he said.
