On Feb. 2, the Gardnerville Water Co. will move to its new 3,921-square-foot office located at 1579 Virginia Ranch Road in south Gardnerville.

Final design plans for the new office were completed in March 2009. Contracts were awarded June 2009 to local companies A & A Construction for the site work, Central Sierra Construction for the building and Signature Landscaping for the landscaping.

Gardnerville Water Co. Manager Mark Gonzales said the new office is completely environmentally friendly. The building is positioned to utilize the breezes from the west for cooling purposes. LED lighting was installed to illuminate the office inside and out, and Sola tubes were also installed to produce natural lighting in all work areas.

Furthermore, a photovoltaic solar generation system on the premises will provide all the energy necessary to run the office and the water fill station.

NV Energy included the Gardnerville Water Co. in their public building solar rebate program, assuming one half of the costs, and High Desert Electric completed design and construction of the solar system.

A fully automated, card-lock water fill station was also built that will allow contractors, the Nevada Department of Transportation, the Town of Gardnerville, and other construction water customers 24/7 access to bulk water.

Gonzales said funding for the construction project was derived from developer fees and water right sales paid to the water company over the past years. No customer-paid funds were used for the project, he said.

Additionally, the new office building offers a large board room to accommodate meetings, classes and seminars. A work area will offer more storage for customer files as well as a plan-review and layout area for management and staff to review developer plans and improvements.

The water company is currently located at 1394 Highway 395. For more information, call 782-2339 or visit www.gardnervillewater.org.
