Service 3 p.m. Thursday for Trinity Lutheran deacon

A memorial service for Trinity Lutheran Church Deacon Jonathan Cleveland is 3 p.m.,Thursday at the Gardnerville church.

Cleveland, 46, died Sunday morning at his home. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from Concordia University in Portland, which is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

When he arrived here from Portland, he told a reporter he always wanted to be a pastor, but became a youth minister at a college professor's suggestion.

Cleveland is the single parent of three daughters, 26, 24 and 16. His youngest daughter plays basketball for Douglas High School.
