Ballet company presents annual dance extravaganza

The Sierra Ballet Theater Co., affiliated with The Academy of Dance Arts in the Gardnerville Ranchos, will perform "A Dance Extravaganza" at the MontBleu Resort and Casino on Feb. 6 and 27. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the performance following at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for assigned seating.

Touted as "a timeless blend of masterpieces," this is sure to be an elegant, enjoyable evening. Under the artistic direction of Kelly O'Fallon and ballet mistress Irma Witt O'Fallon, this will be the fourth annual performance for the theater company.

In operation since 1994, The Academy of Dance Arts has locations in both Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe. The academy offers classes in ballet, jazz and tap. Owner Kelly O'Fallon's diverse dance and choreography career has taken her all over the world, and her primary motivation is to share her knowledge and experience as a dancer, teacher and choreographer with the students who pass through the studio's doors.

Meneley Elementary hosts Valentine's bingo night on Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 6-8 p.m. The public is invited to attend and all ages are welcome. Cost is 25 cents per card each game, with no limit on the number of cards purchased per game. Kids play free. Each game does require the purchase of new cards. Adults play for cash and kids are eligible to win prizes. Pizza, snacks and drinks are available for purchase at the event, which is held every other month.

The school's annual science fair will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25. They are in need of judges for this event. If you are interested in participating, please contact science fair coordinator Cathy Hackler at 265-3154.

As part of their ongoing fundraising efforts, the PTO continues to collect Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Soup labels. Did you also know that the school collects Capri Sun drink pouches for recycling? They send the pouches to a company called Terracycle and they get money in return. Terracycle then transforms the former trash into some nifty products that you can buy at many major retailers.
