The Douglas junior varsity girls' basketball team continued to roll through its Sierra League schedule over the weekend, defeating Manogue and South Tahoe.
The wins pushed the Lady Tigers to 15-2 overall on the year and 6-0 in league play.
"We made changes to the starting lineup and got great minutes from some very deserving, hard-working players," coach Les Imelli said. "This was huge and will have an effect on future games as we saw things out of some players we hadn't seen before on both offense and defense."
Douglas has had nine, 10 and 11 players (the whole team) score in its last three games.
"This is due to the great ball movement and the extreme unselfishness of the players," Imelli said.
On Friday, Douglas topped South Tahoe 61-4, grabbing 41 rebounds in the game.
Holly Downer had 18 points, Kelsey Walsh had 12, Cassidy Curtis had eight, Alexyss Easlick had five and Jessica Vega, Cora Moody and Amanda Wartgow each had four. Downer and Walsh led the team with seven rebounds apiece.
On Saturday against Manogue, Douglas pulled away with a 60-21 win.
Downer had 12 points, Curtis had 11, Sophie Wilson had eight, Wartgow, Megan King and Walsh each had six, Easlick had three and Jillian Olivera, Moody, Vega and Kaitlyn Varble each had two.
Curtis led the team with six rebounds and Moody had a team-leading four steals.
Two weeks ago, Douglas picked up a 52-42 win over Wooster as Easlick had a team-leading 14 points. Olivera added eight and Wartgow and King each had seven.
Easlick led the Tigers with nine rebounds and King had a team-leading five steals.
The Douglas boys' junior varsity basketball team stayed unbeaten on the year with an 80-65 win over Manogue in Reno on Saturday.
Jake Tessmann led the Tigers with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, and three assists.
Matt Wylie had 12 points and James TenBroeck had eight points and four assists.
"This was by far the best team we have played all year," Douglas coach Brian Mello said. "We were pushed and tested for 32 minutes. Although we won by 15, it was a very intense and difficult game. The boys played hard and fought their way to another win.
"Nate (Vonahsen) really got us going in the first half and set the tempo for the entire game. He attacked the rim and played great defense.
"Jake hit some big 3-pointers in the second half when Manogue was closing the gap. Matt has been playing solid for us, giving us a triple threat with scoring, rebounding and playing great defense. James has also been very consistent this year in both scoring and rebounding. I am very proud of each member of the team."
Also in the game, Connor Hughes had five steals, Wylie had four steals and Vonahsen had five steals.
On Friday, Douglas cruised to a 66-36 win at South Tahoe.
Tessmann led the team with 19 points while Wylie had eight points, nine rebounds and five steals. Trevor Shaffer had eight rebounds and Hughes dished out six assists and swiped six steals.
