You loyal melodrama fans did it. Tickets for all performances are sold out. Congratulations to all who got their tickets in time. But, for those who did not, the director has told me that they will open rehearsals on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and Thursday, Jan. 28, to the public with no reserved seating.

Doors open 4:30 p.m. Jan. 26 for the working rehearsal at 5 p.m. Cost is $5. This is a working rehearsal and the director may interrupt the performance for corrections at any time. There will be no food or beverages at this rehearsal.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 for the 6 p.m. final rehearsal. Cost is $10, which includes one drink and hors d'oeuvres only and a rehearsal of the intermission olio.

Enter the Douglas County Historical Society's January photo contest by Jan. 30 either by bringing a photo to the Gardnerville museum or by e-mailing it to the address below.

The photo needs to be about what January in Douglas County looks like. The winning photo is announced Feb. 5 and will represent January in our 2011 calendar. Although there's just one contest winner, stop in the Main Street Bookstore to see if your photo is one chosen monthly by our exhibit committee to turn into greeting cards for sale in the bookstore.

The Endowment Funding Seminar for anyone interested in estate planning is 7 p.m. Feb. 10. Specialist Dick Stoelzing explains wealth transfer and preservation strategies including estate tax, income tax, charitable and non-tax planning issues. He explains the importance of endowment funding. This seminar is open to the public, but seating is limited. Call Cindy at 782-2555 to reserve seats for you and any guests you would like to bring.

The deadline for entries into this year's Women in History Project is March 5. Any woman, alive or dead, may be entered. She needs to have lived in Douglas County at some point in her life and have contributed to the quality of life here. Nominating packets are available at the main desk in the Gardnerville museum or by calling 782-2555 and requesting one.

The presentation of the winning Women in History is March 20. The public is invited to attend this ceremony where we honor the women of our county and all they have done to contribute to our life.

For questions, contact the Douglas County Historical Society at www.historicnevada.org or at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville at 782-2555. Remember, DCHS and its two museums in Gardnerville and Genoa don't receive any regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help us keep our doors open.
