The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning traffic accident Monday after two blood-covered people were discovered walking on Dresslerville Road shortly after 2 a.m.
Deputies were dispatched to an address in the 1000 block of Dresslerville by a resident who thought he heard voices coming from a vacant house next door.
Three deputies responded and came upon a 20-year-old woman and 26-year-old man walking westbound on the eastbound shoulder of Dresslerville.
According to reports, the subjects were bloody and had minor lacerations to the head and face. Both appeared dazed and the woman was crying. The man was holding his right arm and said his shoulder was "messed up."
The man said the woman had been driving and crashed her car. He said several times they had been drinking and she was driving.
Deputies found the vehicle in a nearby driveway and said it appeared the vehicle rolled and collided with a tree. The airbags had deployed and the windshield was smashed out.
Officers attempted to interview the woman while waiting for paramedics, and she denied driving.
A blood draw at the urgent care center determined the woman's blood-alcohol content to be .24, three times the legal limit for driving in Nevada.
She was charged with minor consuming, but due to conflicting statements, deputies were unable to determine who was driving.
Emergency room personnel said there were no obvious seat-belt injuries that would indicate who was driving. The woman had a lump and laceration in the middle of her forehead suggesting she hit the steering wheel, but the officer said it wasn't enough evidence to establish probable cause that she was the driver.
No citations were issued for driving under the influence or any other violations that require a driver be identified.
