The challenge for this morning's commute will be pretty similar to last night's - slick roads, reduced visibility and chain restrictions. The snow has pretty much stopped in the Valley for now, but the National Weather Service is predicting scattered snow showers that could leave another inch in the Valley floors.
If you're headed over the hill this morning, your only choices have an eight in them. Highway 50 is closed for avalanche control over Echo Summit. Both Interstate 80 and Highway 88 require chains or four-wheel drive. Here in the Valley, Highway 395 is requiring chains or snow tires from Pleasant Valley south to Bridgeport. Highway 88 has controls on it from the state line to the intersection with 395. Both Kingsbury and Highway 50 have chain or snow tire restrictions in Douglas.
The worst of the snow showers should pass by 10 a.m. After that it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent but today's snow accumulation will be less than an inch. We'll dry out on Saturday and then Sunday brings a chance of rain with it. It will be pretty soupy out by the middle of next week. The temperature in Minden is 26 degrees.
