FALLON - The Douglas boys basketball team had its hands full in the first half against Fallon on Saturday at Elmo Derrico Gym.

The Tigers led, 29-26, at the half before exploding for 51 points in the second en route to a 80-52 4A Sierra League win.

"They settled for the perimeter in the first half, which helped us," Fallon head coach T.W. Cunningham said. "We were throwing over the top the whole first half, and all of sudden, we're throwing our guys into traps."

Fallon (1-6, 5-12) has lost three straight while the Tigers (6-2 league, 10-5 overall) rebound from a 55-50 loss to Carson on Friday.

Fallon broke through the Tigers full-court press early and kept pace with the Northern Region's second-ranked squad. Junior Miles Adams hit a 3-pointer just before the half to slice the deficit to three.

"They did a good job with their game plan," Douglas head coach Corey Thacker said. "Our thing is we going to do it (press) all game. They did a good job of breaking it, but you got to do it all game against us."

Douglas, however, picked up its intensity on defense and forced numerous turnovers to break loose in the third quarter. The Tigers went on runs of seven, eight and eight for a 57-39 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Tigers outscored the Greenwave 28-13 in the third quarter behind seven points from junior Garrett Getty. Getty had a game-high 23 points and freshman Hunter Myers added 10. Senior Jake Johnston led the Greenwave with 12 points.

"I think part of it was we were more energized," Thacker said. "Another part is they have to break it (the press) every time down."

Fallon was able to negate Douglas' height advantage in the first half by crashing the boards and forcing outside shots. Myers gave the Tigers a 15-9 before Fallon junior Derrick Stanford hit a 3 with seconds left.

The Wave absorbed Douglas' best shots in the second period breaking the press and finding easy baskets in transition. Myers hit a shot to give the Tigers its biggest lead of the game at 29-21 with 1:12 left.

Fallon answered with a basket form junior Brent Perazzo and junior Miles Adams nailed a 3 with 3 seconds left in the half.
