An Indian Hills resident who was arrested at gunpoint after hiding two knives behind his back admitted to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on Monday.

John Henry Collins, 40, was arrested Dec. 23, 2009, after deputies responded to a call that a man was threatening a woman with a knife.

"I never intended to use a knife on (the victim)," Collins said Monday. "But I can understand why she was scared, because I was out of control."

Collins faces a maximum sentence of 72 months and a $5,000 fine, but he could also receive probation.

Collins admitted to pouring a beer on the victim, who was pregnant, and pulling her hair, but said he didn't remember standing over her with a knife.

District Judge Michael Gibbons set sentencing for March 8.

Collins' attorney Tod Young said his client had a drinking problem and perhaps some mental health issues.
