An Alpine County resident's sentencing was delayed until Feb. 28, so a drug abuse evaluation could be completed.
Stephanie Castillo, 33, was arrested Sept. 29, 2009, after being pulled over in Douglas County. The arresting officer discovered she had a warrant for failing to appear and took her into custody.
He received permission to search her vehicle and found 3.1 grams of methamphetamine in her purse and elsewhere in the vehicle.
Castillo denied the drugs were hers, but said she used them.
Defense attorney Derrick Lopez said Castillo is seeking a diversion program, something the prosecution opposed.
She said she claimed the drugs to protect a family member who was a passenger in the car.
"My cousin had a 2-year-old, so I said it at the time," she said. "I got myself in a situation, and with my past, it didn't look good."
