Douglas County commissioners are meeting at 1 p.m. today in Minden to discuss among other things the development of interim water rates for the county's water systems, the condemnation of three easements required to complete the pipeline between Minden and Carson City.

Also on the agenda today is the first reading of an ordinance that would require anyone seeking a nonrestricted gaming license to also build 100 hotel rooms. The whole meeting times out at 5 hours and 45 minutes, not including a closed session at the end for negotiations with firefighters' associations.

I don't think Genoa and the Carson Valley Arts Council board are meeting today on Cowboy Poetry as was proposed at the June 18 meeting. Genoa's next regular meeting is on Tuesday and we'll see if the issue shows up there.

It's supposed to be sunny and cooler today with a high near 84 degrees. Winds will pick up in the afternoon rising to 10-15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph. Expect another cool night tonight with a low of 45 degrees.
