A two-alarm fire claimed the garage of an Indian Hills home at 866 Auburn Court this morning.
Firefighters from the East Fork Fire and Paramedic Districts and Carson City converged on the fire, first reported at 7:58 a.m.
Incident Commander Ron Haskins said units from the Sunridge Fire Station and Carson City Engine 3 were first to arrive at the scene, confirmed no one was in the home and had the fire knocked down by 8:23 a.m.
Firefighters from Johnson Lane, Genoa and Minden also responded to the fire.
The home's occupants Neil and Marian Powers were being tended to by neighbors in the driveway of a nearby home.
Neil Powers said the couple had lived in the home for more than 20 years.
Powers said he returned from his walk when he saw smoke and realized there was a fire. Marian Powers was still in bed when the fire started. Firefighters were able to rescue the couples' medication.
East Fork Fire Chief Tod Carlini was observing firefighters at work.
"This was a great response," he said.
The home's shake roof continued to smolder until firefighters blasted it with foam.
East Fork fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
