Wm. Dangberg, who recently returned to Minden from a visit to the Exposition at San Francisco, has the distinction of being the first person to board one of Uncle Sam's submarines upon their arrival at that city a few days ago. The little undersea vessels arrived at the Exposition harbor and members of the Dangberg party were invited to the supply ship that accompanies the submarines, where they had tea with the officers.

Piutes demonstrate exceptional ability as artists of stick game. To the rhythm of the steady tom tom beat, accompanied by drone of Indian singing, the Washoes and Piutes assembled at the old grammar school grounds last Sunday and for hours played what is known as the hand game handed down from early generations. Stakes were high, Indians report and in the finals the Piutes walked away with the swag. In has been quite some time since local Indians have engaged in their native gambling game, and many whites strolled down to witness the natives as they drummed on boards, keeping time to their mystic and weird singing.

Photo caption. Arnie's Army. A marshal clears the way for golfing legend Arnold Palmer as he moves from the 14th to the 15th green tee. Palmer consistently drew the biggest crowds and the most photographers at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, even though three days at four-over-par left him well behind the leaders. His fans never gave up, however, preferring to be in the presence of the charismatic Palmer while Miller Barber went on to win.

A theft in the Gardnerville Ranchos shocked residents and put the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on alert. On Monday between the hours of 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., neighbors reported seeing three male subjects stealing a 16.5-foot-diameter trampoline. Due to gusty winds, the trampoline had blown over the 8-foot backyard fence and had come to rest across the street. One of the neighbors said that when questioned, one of the men responded that he had talked to the police, and they had told him that he could take the trampoline.
