The Douglas County Historical Society's 2010 Young Chautauqua Program came to an end with a performance at Mormon Station State Historic Park on June 16. The program began in January when students chose historical characters to research and present in the first person for the annual free event in the park.

The characters of Annie Oakley, Nellie Bly, Calamity Jane, and Elizabeth Blackwell were performed by the Young Chautauquans. Diana Borges gave an adult characterization of Sarah Winnemucca.

The historical society's Young Chautauqua program is for students in fourth through 12th grade interested in history, drama, speech, or who just want to have fun.

Announcements about the 2011 season will be made in November, meetings begin in January, and the young people begin performing in the community in May. Information at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 782-2555.
