Players and familes of the Douglas High girls' soccer program played host to a traveling German squad, FSV Westerstede, this week.
As part of the Westerstede's visit, the team squared off in a series of "friendlies" against the local players.
Using primarily players from last year's state championship squad, Douglas appeared to be in midseason form, rolling to 7-0 and 4-0 wins Tuesday night.
The teams met up again for a pair of games Thursday night after The Record-Courier's press deadline.
In game one, the teams battled to a scoreless draw through the first half although Douglas outshot Westerstede 12-3.
Recent Douglas graduate CJ Baumgartner scored on a cross from Tia Lyons just 30 seconds into the second half, opening the offensive floodgates.
Lyons fought off a defender and scored to the near post a little over two minutes later to make it 2-0 and Brianna Randall, Aspen Abbott, Cara Dunkelman and Kaitlyn Varble added goals for the Tigers.
Randall and Shannon Prinz combined for the shutout in net. Camry Varble and Kaitlyn Varble each had assists in the game.
Douglas jumped out to a quick lead in game two and coasted from there.
While staying with host families this week, the German squad was able to travel the surrounding area.
They made stops in Sacramento, Carson City, Virginia City, Lake Tahoe and Genoa.
On Wednesday, both teams were able to view the Germany-Spain World Cup semifinal at the East Fork Fire & Paramedics District's Emergency Operations Center in Minden.
