The Carson Valley Little League 10-11-year-old All-Stars baseball team blasted North Valleys 24-1 to open the Nevada District I Tournament in Carson City Thursday night.
Kindel Isham started the game on the mound for Carson Valley and picked up the win while Tomas Leitenbauer and Jace Hart were effective in relief.
"The kids came out a little tentative, but once the nerves settled down, they turned it into a hitting barrage," coach Stacy Trivitt said. "We were just having the kids go station-to-station by the second inning."
The 20-plus hit offensive output was a pleasant surprise Trivitt said.
"We focused so much on defense heading in, because of the quality of teams we were going to run up against early on," he said. "To see the kids hit like that out of the gates was just wonderful.
"It was a team-wide effort, up and down the order. We were so happy with their approach at the plate."
Next up for Carson Valley is a matchup with Carson Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
"Carson and Washoe are kind of the annointed favorites," Trivitt said. "They come by their reputation deservedly. They beat us 17-1 last year and they are very strong. We're looking to try to pick up a win against them. We like the spot we're, we'll just have to see how it goes."
