A 21-year-old Sparks man was jailed Sunday on $10,137 bail after he reportedly crashed into a vehicle Sunday on Highway 395 and fled the scene, leading deputies on a chase through an alfalfa field before he was captured.
Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Bernadette Smith said Arthur Porter was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence with one prior, obstructing an officer, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering aid, and driving on a suspended driver's license.
She said Porter was on probation with Sparks Alternative Sentencing when the incident occurred.
While inventorying Porter's vehicle for storage, Smith said two weapons were located.
Smith said an traffic accident involving two overturned vehicles was reported at 6:41 a.m. on Highway 395 south of Airport Road in Minden.
She said Deputy Todd McEwen was first at the site and witnesses pointed out a man running from the scene into the field east of the highway.
McEwen chased the suspect for 15 minutes through alfalfa, over an irrigation ditch, dodging cows, rocks and manure piles while relaying the man's location to deputies who caught him on Heybourne Road.
According to preliminary reports, Porter driving an Escalade, was following a driver in a Mercedes sports utility vehicle. The Escalade reportedly ran into the Mercedes and the two vehicles flipped over.
Both drivers were taken to Carson Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The traffic accident remains under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
