Alfalfa's not only good feed for dairy cows, but properly treated is a cure for several human ailments. Delicious candy is also made from alfalfa, while alfalfa meal finely ground makes delicious bisquits and it is a safe bet that if alfalfa was widely grown in Germany as in this country, the chemists of that country would have long ago found a way to make it into bread for the soldiers. Now comes a Carson Valley man with a new use for alfalfa. By cutting when in full bloom and putting the blossoms through a certain process, known only to him, he has been able to make the sweetest and most fragrant perfume yet devised. The discoverer of this new perfume does not care for any notoriety at this time and for that reason his name is being withheld.

Monday was the hottest day of the season, the thermometer climbing to 101 degrees. Thunder showers have threatened since last Saturday and for a brief duration, rain fell out of a clear sky, much to the surprise of local people. The weather has been ideal for curing hay and farmers report that the first crop of alfalfa is going into the stack in splendid condition. With the next week the major portion of the first crop will be harvested and with grain ripening it will not be long before binders and harvesters will be at work.
