Douglas County planning commissioners will discuss modifying the county rules for setting up small and micro wind energy conversion systems otherwise known as windmills. The smaller units should require less land and setbacks under the code. Planning commissioners meet 1 p.m. at the Douglas County Administration Building, 1616 Eighth St.

A woman who posed as a nurse to obtain fraudulent prescriptions is scheduled to appear before District Judge Dave Gamble this morning for sentencing. Roberta Bronwyn Jones, 48, faces up to four years in prison, or could be sent to drug court this morning.

By far the most interesting thing before the Douglas County School Board today is the recommendation of Crespin Esquivel as principal of Whittell High School on the consent agenda. Among items on the regular agenda is converting the high school competency test in social studies from multiple choice to essay questions. Board members meet 3:30 p.m. at Douglas High School.

It's sunny today with a forecast high of 89 degrees, though it was warmer than the upper 80s on Monday. Expect the wind to pick up in the afternoon.
