Area high school students are encouraged to showcase their talents and compete for scholarship money while benefiting kids in need at the Sierra Star Search annual fundraising event for Kids & Horses.
The first round of tryouts is 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Douglas High School, and 6-7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Incline High School. A second round of tryouts will be held, if necessary, 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 1, at the Incline High School Theater.
The contest will feature the top 10-15 finalists, 5-10 p.m. Sept. 11, at the Crystal Bay Club in Crystal Bay. Prize money includes $700 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place.

About Kids & Horses:
Kids and Horses is a nonprofit corporation that has offered therapeutic riding programs and a bridge for children and adults with disabilities since 1999. The Kids & Horses facility in Minden is a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association Premier Accredited Center and the only center of its kind in northern Nevada.
Instructors are certified and have training through NARHA, a national organization that provides leadership, operating standards, safety rules, regulations and insurance coverage for approved centers.
Kids & Horses offers individually tailored riding lessons to improve strength, coordination and self-esteem of students. Kids & Horses' scholarship programs allow children in need to receive assistance. Forty percent of students are on scholarship.
