Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church provides blankets and quilts to the City of Refuge and the Veterans' Hospital in Reno through the church's outreach program. The blankets and quilts are made with donated materials by inmates of the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City.

Rex Reed, a member of Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church who works at the correctional center, told the church's evangelism committee about the Senior Structured Living Program in the correction center. Members of the group make quilted and knitted blankets, booties and hats that they want to share with the community.

The first group of quilts was delivered to the City of Refuge, a home where young single women live and receive care until their babies are born. The second group of knitted blankets will be delivered to the Reno Veterans' Hospital.

Completed booties and hats will be shared with the community in colder weather through the Shepherd of the Sierra's year-round outreach ministry.

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church is at 3680 Highway 395 South, Carson City. Information, 267-3680.
