Ken and Christy Blach won a contest from our local country music radio station KBUL 98.1 FM to have Chris Young come to their backyard in TRE. They invited more than 100 relatives and friends for a barbecue pot luck but most of all to listen to Chris Young sing. He is a 24-year-old famous country singer with No. 1 songs like "I Want to be a Better Man" and "Get You Home," the little black dress song. Yes, there were more than a couple of us who wore black dresses to the event.
The food spread over 40 feet of tables included hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and many varieties of salads. One coleslaw in particular had red cabbage in it and is the best I've ever eaten. Whoever made it, if you're reading this column, I'd love to have the recipe and include it in a future article.
Chris Young, with an accompanying guitar player named Steve and his promoter walked in. Wow, he is a lot taller than he appears on television. They sat down and ate dinner with all of us and were so friendly.
During one song someone in the audience had their cell phone ring. He asked for it and answered in his deep Tennessee accent, "Hello, Chris Young speaking." This was so cool. As the concert continued the crowd was oohing and awing. He thought it was for his singing but it was actually responses from seeing the lightning bolts in the background in the Coleville area.
This was a wonderful evening of music and food. Thank you so much Ken and Christy for hosting the event in your new home and happy first anniversary. We love you both.
