Former Douglas pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller is in the middle of a successful first full season of professional baseball in the Colorado Rockies organization.
Now, if only he could get some run support.
Balcom-Miller is carrying only a 1-6 record, but his ERA is sitting at a respectable 3.73.
He's started 13 games with one complete-game shutout and 74 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched for the Single-A Asheville Tourists.
He's surrendered two home runs and 13 walks while carrying a WHIP (walks and hits to innings pitched ratio) of 1.10.
His latest start was on Sunday against Kane County where he struck out six, walked one and allowed four hits and one run in six innings.
Balcom-Miller pitched and started at third base as a sophomore for Douglas High in 2005, helping Douglas to a Sierra League title. He finished his high school career in California and was drafted by the Rockies in the sixth round of the 2009 draft with the 181st pick of the draft.
His name was floated in rumors of a possible trade with Arizona for Diamondback standout pitcher Dan Haren, but Haren was dealt to the Angels earlier this week.
