EDITOR:
I have read the letters to The R-C regarding my husband, Lynn Hettrick, with interest. Lynn is running for the position of clerk-treasurer because he believes the office can do more to benefit the residents of Douglas County.
The incumbent is a good man - Lynn would be the first person to tell you that - but the incumbent is simply not taking advantage of all of the opportunities to improve services and lower costs. The letter writers tell us that the incumbent is qualified and professional. But while the incumbent runs an office with a budget of around $2 million and 20 employees, Lynn has administrative oversight for 12 statewide agencies with budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of employees. Lynn is clearly better qualified.
Go back and look at the letters. No one attacks Lynn's integrity, his work ethic or his ability. No one says he can't do the job or, more importantly, that he can't do a better job. No, the letter writers try to convince us that the incumbent can do the job.
If you step back from the rhetoric and compare qualifications, Lynn is the obvious choice. He has a proven record of leadership. He is a successful businessman and has a superior record as an administrator. In these tough economic times, Douglas County needs the best leaders it can get. I urge you to vote for Lynn.
