Soroptimists award Valley student achievers

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley recognized Student Achievers of the Month for the last five months of the 2009-10 school year at a luncheon at Two Guys from Italy on May 18.

Student achievers are nominated by high school teachers, counselors or administrators and chosen by the Soroptimist Education Committee. Young people recognized for hard work, dedication and commitment to overcoming challenges are Mandy May from Sierra Lutheran High, and Christy Clark, Nestor Sanchez, Daniel Calderon, and Cierra Mullen of Douglas High School.

Soroptimist International of Carson Valley Soroptimist has worked to further the success of women and children for 37 years. The club's annual Savor the Flavor event and the sale of Carson Valley Days buttons raise funds for grant scholarships. Membership information, club president Cindy White, 267-3685.
