Unemployment insurance payments distributed via debit card should be posted by 7 p.m., according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation's Employment Security Division.
Benefits for 100,000 unemployed Nevadans failed to post this morning, according to the department.
"ACS began working on the problem as soon as it occurred and made the payment of benefits to Nevada claimants its number one priority," said Cynthia Jones, DETR deputy director and administrator for ESD. "The technical glitch caused an approximate 14 hour delay in processing of about 100,000 deposits."
The company will waive any fees that resulted from the technical issue, such as those that may have been incurred for balance inquiries, from at 12:01 a.m. June 2, through the completion of processing of the delayed deposits today, she said.
"ESD regrets any difficulty that our citizens experienced as a result of this system difficulty," said Jones. "While the delay in payments today was unfortunate it does highlight the resiliency of the Unemployment Insurance Debit card program. Under this program, claimants receive their benefits two to three days faster than through the paper check method. If a similar technical issue had occurred with the old paper check system, the repair may have taken several days rather than the 14 hours.
Approximately 95 percent of benefit payments are made using the debit card system.
