A funeral services is 1 p.m. today at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville for 15-year Minden resident Edward Chicou, who died May 30, 2010, in Carson City. A viewing is at noon.
Born Dec. 7, 1925, in Oakland, Calif., to Emile and Eva Irene Chiafulio Chicou, he graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as the Albany post commander.
He married Dorthy Anne Meyer on May 14, 1950, in Albany.
He was a self-employed in the deli and catering business. He enjoyed cooking, travelling, taking cruises; playing cards, leather tooling, charcoal and pastel drawing and his chihuahua, Mitzi.
Mr. Chicou is preceded in death by his parents; uncle Jim Firpo; aunt Ange Firpo and brother Robert Chicou.
He is survived by wife Dorthy; daughters Eva Denice (Ernie) Batstone and Helen Renee (Wayne) Babcock; sister-in-law Lil Chicou; grandchildren Jilian Denise Babcock, Brent Thomas Babcock and Kevin Charles Batstone; step-grandson Martin David Batstone; niece Judy Bradley and nephew Rev. Bob Chicou.
Burial will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden. Memorial donations may be made to the diabetes association and the cancer society.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
