A report of a man with a long gun slung across his back resulted in a lockdown on the last day at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School this morning while deputies searched for him.
The man in his mid-20s, wearing khaki pants and holding a white flower, was last seen crossing the playground at Scarselli Elementary School, which is closed for summer.
No one has been injured or threatened, nor is there any indication that the man has discharged the weapon. The schools are located near the sandpits, which is a popular place for shooters.
Children near Scarselli told deputies they saw the man at about 9:25 a.m. walking toward Jill Way. So far deputies have not been able to locate the man.
Assistant Superintendent Rich Alexander said that upon receiving the
sheriff's office report Friday morning, the district put Pau-Wa-Lu Middle
School on lockdown. Neighboring Scarselli Elementary is already closed for
summer, he said.
"Everbody's safe, everybody's good and calm," Alexander said from Pau-Wa-Lu.
"Now, it's a mater of getting the clear from the sheriff's department."
The middle school is due to let out at 11:30 a.m. today.
