A 24-year-old Gardnerville man was killed 1 p.m. Saturday in a vehicle accident near the intersection of Pinenut and East Valley roads.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Halsey said initial investigation revealed that a white sedan containing three people was westbound on Pinenut Road when a pickup containing three teenagers pulled out from the Crossroads Nazarene Church parking lot.
The pickup hit the side of the sedan, knocking it into a roll. The sedan came to rest on its side.
The male victim was sitting in the back seat of the sedan when the accident occurred. He was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the sedan and a female passenger were helicoptered to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
None of the teenagers in the pickup truck were seriously injured.
Pinenut Road was closed for most of the afternoon.
East Fork paramedics and firefighters responded to the accident along with deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
