A flood advisory is in effect for the West Walker River near Coleville until Thursday morning. As of 11 p.m. Saturday, the river was running at nearly half a foot above flood stage. According to the National Weather Service, the West Walker will continue to cause minor flooding of lowlands, pastures and some rural roads along the river between Walker and Topaz Lake.
Warm temperatures are melting of the snowpack in the Sierra and sending meltwater down Sierra streams and rivers. Peak flows on the rivers will be from the evening to the early morning. Lake Tahoe peak flows are expected early this week in Lake Tahoe and along the Carson and Truckee rivers. Peak flows along the Walker River will occur around the middle of the month.
River rafters and kayakers are warned to be careful in the icy turbulent water. Watch children closely near a river or stream.
