A 78-year-old man was killed in a head-on accident on Highway 6 west of Tonopah 9 a.m. Sunday, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The man, who is believed to be from Carson City, was driving a green 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix west when the vehicle drifted into the path of an eastbound 2008 Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by an Oregon man.
The trucker tried to avoid the accident but the vehicles collided near the right edge of the eastbound travel lane. The driver of the sedan and his two dogs were dead at the scene. The trucker and his teenage son received minor injuries in the accident.
The accident occurred just east of Coaldale, where the road was partially blocked for five hours. Highway 6 and Highway 95 follow the same route between Coaldale and Tonopah.
