Former Carson Valley newspaper correspondent and Gardnerville resident Rosemarie Kroenig Middendorf, 82, died May 31, 2010, in Carson City surrounded by her family.
Born Nov. 12, 1927, in Bellville, Ill., she married FBI employee Burl Middendorf in 1948.
Mrs. Middendorf worked as a telephone operator before moving to Burbank, Calif., where the couple lived for 40 years before moving to Minden in 1991.
She worked as a columnist for the "Burbank Ledger" in the mid 1960s. She retired from St. Joseph Medical Center after 10 years as an administrative secretary.
She was a volunteer who served many organizations benefiting youth and adults for more than 40 years, providing publicity for organizations such as the Camp Fire Girls, religious groups, the Carson Valley Community Food Closet and Project Santa Claus. Her work appeared in The Record-Courier and the Nevada Appeal.
The Middendorfs traveled extensively through the United States, visiting Alaska and Hawaii. The visited Australia, New Zealand and China, and frequently hosted their daughters and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Middendorf is survived by her husband of 61 years, Burl; daughters Devon M. (Randall) Vaughn of Arizona, Dawn Van Ness of California and Denise Middendorf (James Van Ness) of Oregon.
A celebration of Mrs. Middendorf's life and accomplishments was held in Minden on June 3, attended by family and long time friends. Internment will take place later, in her family's plot in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
