Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park presents the Carson Valley History: A Community of Cousins exhibit, noon to 4 p.m. today through Sunday, and June 19-20. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and younger.

Memorabilia from Carson Valley Days celebrations is shown at the exhibit to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the event first started by Heinrich F. Dangberg Jr., who was named by the Carson Valley 20-30 International No. 85 Club as the Citizen of the Century for his promotion of Carson Valley.

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park features buildings constructed between 1857 and 1920, including what was once one of the most prominent homes in Carson Valley. The site was settled in 1857 by Carson Valley pioneer Heinrich F. Dangberg Sr.

The park's collection is about the many Carson Valley residents with whom the family interacted and shows some of those connections to help visitors better understand the Valley's past.

Exhibit items are from the historic artifacts left by the Dangberg family. The display includes features on Douglas County High School in the 1920s and 1940s, and documents connected with many of the Valley's longtime families, such as birth and graduation announcements from the 1920s through the 1970s.

Regular tours aren't offered during the Carson Valley: A Community of Cousins exhibit.

Upcoming events include a free lecture on Nevada's literary heritage by University of Nevada professor Cheryl Glotfelty, 10 a.m. June 19, at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. No pets. Bring your own lawn chairs.

The park is at 1450 Highway 88, a half mile south of the Carson Valley Swim Center. Regular guided tours of the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park are 10 a.m. Wednesday-Sunday, with 2 p.m. tours added Saturdays and Sundays. Cost is $3 adults, free for children under 13.
