John D'Agostini and Craig Therkildsen will be on November's ballot as candidates for the El Dorado County Sheriff's seat.
Both Therkildsen and D'Agostini garnered the most votes in the packed race during Tuesday's primary election. D'Agostini received 9,277 votes and Therkildsen received 8,479 votes.
Almost 39 percent of the county's 105,163 voters cast ballots at polling stations or though the mail for the election.
In a previous interview with the Tribune, D'Agostini said his priorities include getting the sheriff's office more involved in the community and improving communication with law enforcement.
"I think that, over the years, law enforcement has been separated from the community. They don't know the people they serve and the people they serve don't know them," D'Agostini said in an April interview. "I want to fix that with an involved leadership style."
Therkildsen said his main priorities include mending relationships within a sheriff's office, giving Tahoe deputies special training and keeping as many deputies in the office during any budget discussions.
"Nobody brings the knowledge of the department to the sheriff position like I do," Therkildsen said during an April interview. "I don't have a steep learning curve. I know the people, I know the personalities within in the sheriff's department. There's not going to be a learning in curve."
