Staff Reports
Members of the Carson Valley Photo Club turned time back to the days of black-and-white photography for their monthly photo contest. Tory Perez took first place with a stunning black and white study of a twisted old cottonwood tree. He dubbed his winning entry, shot at Lake Lahontan, "Not Kansas."
Second place went to Ron Darr for "Watching Me," a picture of an osprey landing at its nest in the Warner Range in California.
Ben Beres won third place for "Lunch Time," a photo of a sandpiper searching for food at a shoreline.
Speaker for the monthly gathering of shutterbugs was local landscape photographer Chris Buchanan.
Terry Nathan, a professor in atmospheric science at U.C. Davis, an outdoorsman and field contributor for Nature Photographer magazine, will address the club at its July 13 meeting.
The club welcomes new members - amateurs to professionals. It meets the second Tuesday each month at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, club president Doug Dill, 783-4388.
