Carson Valley Days weekend was relatively quiet with 18 arrests and 18 citations between Friday night and Monday morning.

While the majority of arrests were alcohol-related, there were two incidents of violence that resulted in five people being taken into custody, including one man during the Carson Valley Days parade.

While downtown Gardnerville was quiet on Friday, there was plenty to keep deputies busy at Lampe Park where a fight took place that resulted in the arrest of four men.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies in the park were flagged down by passers by who directed them to the gazebo, where they spotted five men fighting. Two of the men in red shirts started jogging toward deputies as they approached, while the other three ran from the scene.

Four of the men were arrested for provoking a breach of the peace, according to Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

"During the evening the downtown Gardnerville area was relatively quiet with only a few celebrants being arrested for alcohol related offenses," Halsey said. "The bars were closed at 2 a.m. without incident."

More than 40 law officers and supervisors worked during the weekend.

Early Saturday morning, a squad of deputies went to the Carson Valley Inn, which was very busy, but there were no arrests or safety issues reported.

Nearly four-dozen deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol troopers participated in the Carson Valley Days parade. There was only one arrest during the parade.

Halsey said two deputies and the Douglas County gang officers were assigned to the park. No incidents were reported at the park on Saturday.

Halsey thanked several groups on behalf of the Sheriff's Office, all the officers and volunteers involved with the Carson Valley Days event, including Nevada Highway Patrol, East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts, the Town of Gardnerville, the Active 20-30 Club, and all the local bars and businesses that worked with the sheriff's office to police the crowd.

"Due to everyone's cooperation, the sheriff's office was able to make this a public safe event," Halsey said.
