Workers hope to have Muller Lane open by this weekend after the failure of an irrigation culvert forced its closure Thursday morning.
Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said Muller will definitely be closed this morning, as workers dig up the road to repair the damage about two miles west of Highway 395.
"A portion of Muller Lane started to collapse," he said. "A crew is looking at the culvert under the road to see what caused it and to fix it in the meantime."
Magruder said workers may install steel plates across the road to bridge the gap over the weekend.
He said 1,500 cars a day use the route between Highway 395 and Foothill.
"There are two other decent alternate routes," he said. He said residents will probably have to go to Foothill Road to reach their homes. Muller Lane crosses both forks of the Carson River and several irrigation ditches.
