A 12-foot wide trench crosses Muller Lane about 2 miles east of the intersection with Foothill Road.
Gardnerville Crew Supervisor Troy Hammond said that a two-foot wash-out had developed on the west side of the road
When workers uncovered it, he said it turned out to be the size of a studio apartment. Workers repaired the culvert on Friday and then filled the hole with gravel, allowing the road to be open over the weekend.
Paving should be done sometime early next week.
