Even though temperatures have only flirted with 90 degrees in the first week of summer, it was still plenty warm on Tuesday for the Douglas County Public Library's water bottle rocket building event.

Children 6 and older gathered at James Lee Park in Indian Hills, and launched 2-liter plastic bottles using water and air pressure.

The water bottle rocket launch was just one of the several events sponsored by the library during the Make a Spash summer reading program.

The Teen Advisory Board and the Dragon Slayers sponsor teen game night, 3 p.m. today, at the library, at 1625 Library Lane, Minden. Play Wii and board games or make a duct tape beach bag at this free event. Pizza and craft supplies provided for sixth- to 12th-graders.

Enter the Lego contest July 1-21. Create a water-themed Lego project to win prizes. For ages 2-102.

Sign up by Saturday for Fourth of July stories and crafts 3:30 p.m. Monday at the library. For ages 3 and older; young children should be accompanied by an adult.

Upcoming events include the Bubble Lady on July 8, origami with Dennis Little on July 26, and the Make a Splash pirate party Aug. 7. Information, douglas.lib.nv.us or 782-9841.
