A Gardnerville man was arrested Saturday for theft and battery after he struggled with store officials who tried to detain him for shoplifting.
Tyler Scott Hammond, 18, faces two counts of petit larceny and one of battery in connection with an incident at a Gardnerville grocery store.
Hammond allegedly took a doughnut and a stain removal pen from the store and when stopped outside, headbutted the loss control officer. He was taken down by store employees and cuffed.
Hammond appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Monday. He is scheduled to return to court again today with his appointed attorney, Kris Brown.
