An Indian Hills woman who said she'd been using methamphetamine since she was 14 will get an opportunity to prove that she wants to quit after being allowed to attend Western Regional Drug Court.

Mindy C. Spitsen, 29, admitted Tuesday she and her husband used her mother-in-law's credit card to rack up charges related to their wedding and that they forged a check on the woman's account to pay a bill.

Judge Dave Gamble asked Spitsen, who appeared in court last week under the influence of the drug, the last time she was clean. She said she stopped using for a year between January 1998 and June 1999 to regain custody of her daughter.

The girl is 12 now and living with an aunt in Reno so she could attend counseling for depression, something to which Spitsen said her meth use contributed.

"I can guarantee that 50 percent or more of the reason she is depressed was me," she said. "She's angry at me."

Gamble deferred sentencing so Spitsen could attend drug court.

"If you take this seriously, it is the single best way for you to stop using methamphetamine and have a life."
