Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Chief Elaine Pace has been named to the Nevada State Board of Fire Services by Gov. Jim Gibbons.

Pace was nominated for the appointment by District Fire Chief Tod Carlini.

"Elaine is an excellent choice for this appointment," Carlini said.

"She has such a diverse background, including chemical engineering and fire service training, that she will be a major asset to the board."

The State Board of Fire Services is advisory to the state fire marshal.

The board also makes recommendations to the state fire marshal and to the Legislature concerning necessary legislation in the field of firefighting and fire protection.

The board is composed of a licensed architect, a chief of a volunteer fire department, a chief of a full-time paid fire department, a professional engineer, the state forester firewarden, a training officer of a volunteer fire department, a training officer of a partially or fully paid fire department and a specialist in hazardous materials.

Pace will serve as the training officer from a volunteer fire department.

Pace has been a volunteer with the Fish Springs group for more than 20 years and an active member of the Quad County Hazardous Materials Team as a technical specialist, the highest level of certification possible.

The appointment is effective July 1, 2010 and runs for a three year period.
