About three-dozen people gathered on Monday night to hear a presentation on the Sierra Nevada Geotourism Project. The goal of the project is collect information about features that are special in a place, including businesses, tourist attractions and recreational facilities, and post it to the geotourism Web site. Eventually all the material would be compiled in an online atlas sponsored by National Geographic. The site is www.sierranevadageotourism.org

April was not a good month for Douglas County merchants. They posted a 6.8 percent decline in taxable sales, bringing in only $38.9 million. By comparison, in April 2005, merchants collected $60.7 million in taxable sales.

Every morning I open the National Weather Service Web site the forecast says something different. Now it says we'll have mostly sunny skies with a high of 94 degrees. I would anticipate that we're going to be looking at something similar for a while.
