Disaster shelter volunteers needed in Mono County

I'll quote from the Mono County note I received:

"The Mono County Department of Social Services, in cooperation with the American Red Cross, is seeking individuals in the Walker area who are interested in giving back to their community by becoming a Disaster Shelter volunteer.

"Each year, Mono County is faced with one form of disaster or another, from the heavy snow storms and the road closures they create to the fires and floods. Mono County Social Services is charged with the responsibility of opening and maintaining those shelters. But we need you. We can't do it alone."

Volunteers would work under the direction of social services and Red Cross personnel in evacuation shelters in Walker during times of disasters such as fires, flood, and earthquakes. Interested individuals would be required to attend a three-hour training class.

For information, call Kathy Watkins, Mono County Social Services, at (760) 924-1793.

The monthly bag sale is March 16-20 at the Walker Thrift Store.

The cost is $3 per bag for all the clothes that will fit in the bag, or $6 for all store items (except jewelry) that will fit in the bag.

Walker Senior Center events

The Walker Senior Center will have a St. Patrick's Day lunch and party on Wednesday, March 17. Please call Sandi at (530) 495-2323 to reserve your spot.

On Wednesday, March 24, free crafts class will be happening, starting at 1 p.m. Again, please call Sandi to RSVP.

Walker Baptist Bible study

AWANA is a children's Bible study program through the Walker Baptist Church and Marine housing facility. It also offers games and fun activities. Every time our local kids participate with other area groups, they have fun and really do well, which they did a few weeks ago. Congratulations, and keep up the good work.
