Special to The R-C
The Chancel Choir of Carson Valley United Methodist Church is preparing music for the Lent and Easter season. Lent, the six-week period of preparation for Easter, offers wonderful worship music opportunities. The choir began its Lenten music last Feb. 21 with a stirring arrangement of "Amazing Grace," a perennial favorite at Carson Valley United Methodist Church. This year the Chancel Choir will present "Lenten Sketches" by Joseph M. Martin on Good Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m.
The composer states that this work was inspired by the great works of visual art created to commemorate the Lenten season. "Lenten Sketches" is a powerful musical composition that traces the events and emotion of Holy Week, culminating in the Crucifixion.
Following the presentation of "Lenten Sketches," during a period of meditation, those attending the Good Friday service will have the opportunity to place their written prayers on a wooden cross, fashioned from the trunk of the church's Christmas tree.
The sorrow of Good Friday gives way to the joy and celebration of Easter morning. The Chancel Choir and Hand Bells are also preparing Easter music for the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on Sunday, April 4. The joy and celebration of Easter morning will be more meaningful for those who have experienced Good Friday.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to deepen your faith journey by attending these special worship services.
