Former Minden resident Leona Gardner, 93, died Feb. 19, 2010, in Green Valley, Ariz.

Born Nov. 29, 1916, in Billings, Mont., to Joseph and Daphne Shoemaker, she met and married Bob Gardner while studying art in San Francisco.

They lived in Minden for seven years where Mr. Gardner was the district ranger before moving on in 1949 to continue his U.S. Forest Service career.

Upon their retirement to Arizona, she continued her interest in art and enjoyed bridge with friends. He golfed.

Mrs. Gardner is preceded in death by husband Bob and son Charles.

She is survived by son John (Jeannie) Gardner of Yuma,Colo.; daughter Roberta Gardner (Rich Tompkins) of Green Valley; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
